Carlleen has three children, one of whom is mentally ill. Working diligently and tirelessly to support her mentally ill child, Carlleen engaged others living with similar challenges.
Carlleen died suddenly, at age 51, on April 9, 2008. She was a remarkable woman who never seemed to lose hope no matter what she endured. Carlleen remained in good spirit and was always ready and willing to help others in a similar situation.
In memory of Carlleen comes ‘Carlleen’s Hope’, a peer to peer support program for those who have a loved one living with mental illness. Why this program?
Our community has many resources available to assist families when mental illness is known or suspected, however the support concludes after a set length of time. For families this can be challenging as they continue to live with the mental health issues long after the direct support has ended. It is for this reason that a group of us in just this situation saw value in forming a support group to help one another.
Our mission is simple; Offer Peer to Peer support and compassion in a confidential environment for those caring for a loved one living with mental illness.
